How to Hide or Remove the Manage Consent Tab in Complianz

Content

One of the most common questions users have about the Complianz – GDPR/CCPA Cookie Consent plugin is how to control the visibility of the "Manage Consent" tab or button that appears after a user has made their cookie choice. Many site owners prefer a cleaner look and want this element to disappear entirely after acceptance.

Why the Manage Consent Tab Appears

By default, the Complianz plugin is configured to allow users to easily revisit and change their cookie preferences. This is why the "Manage Consent" tab remains visible, often as a small button or tab on the side of the screen. While this is a user-friendly feature, it's not always required by law, and site owners have full control over its visibility.

How to Hide the Manage Consent Tab

The solution is found within the plugin's settings and is straightforward to implement.

  1. Navigate to your WordPress dashboard.
  2. Go to Complianz -> Cookie Banner -> General.
  3. Look for the setting labeled "Manage consent display options".
  4. By default, this is often set to "Hover on Desktop – Hide on Mobile." To make the tab disappear completely after a user has accepted or denied cookies, change this setting to "Hide Everywhere".
  5. Click Save to apply your changes.

Once this is done, the Manage Consent tab should no longer be visible on your site after a choice is made.

Important Considerations

  • Caching: If you do not see the changes reflected on your live site immediately, clear any caching mechanisms you have running. This includes your WordPress caching plugin, server-level cache, or CDN cache (like Cloudflare).
  • User Experience: Hiding the tab everywhere removes the most obvious way for a user to change their cookie preferences. You may want to provide an alternative method, such as a link in your footer or privacy policy page, using a custom link with the class cmplz-show-banner.
  • Plugin Conflicts: In rare cases, other plugins or themes can interfere with this functionality. If the setting change doesn't work, try temporarily disabling other plugins to test for a conflict.

This setting provides a simple way to achieve a cleaner website interface after cookie consent has been established.
