How to Fix OnePress Services Section Not Updating Text

Content

Many users of the OnePress theme report a common issue: they can successfully change the title and icon for a service box, but the descriptive text stubbornly remains as the default Latin placeholder text (Morbi in sem quis dui placerat ornare...). This problem is frequently encountered when setting up the Services section on the front page.

Why This Happens

The OnePress theme is designed to pull the text for the Services section boxes from a specific part of the linked WordPress page, not the main page content. This part is known as the page excerpt. If this excerpt field is empty, the theme may fall back to displaying the demo content, which leads to the confusing situation where your page content is updated but the front-end service box is not.

The Primary Solution: Edit the Page Excerpt

The most effective solution, as confirmed by multiple user reports, is to explicitly edit the excerpt for the page linked to your service. Here is how to do it:

  1. In your WordPress dashboard, navigate to Pages and edit the specific page you have selected for your service.
  2. On the page editor screen, look for the Excerpt meta box. If you do not see it, click the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top right corner and select Preferences.
  3. Go to the Panels tab and ensure the Excerpt option is toggled on. Click Enable & Reload.
  4. You will now see the Excerpt box below the main content editor. Delete any existing Latin text and enter the description you want to appear in your Services section.
  5. Update or Publish the page.
  6. Clear any caching on your site (server, plugin, or browser cache) and refresh your front page to see the changes.

Other Potential Causes and Fixes

1. Caching Issues:
If editing the excerpt does not work immediately, your site or browser may be serving a cached version of the page. Clear all caching mechanisms:

  • Any caching plugins (e.g., WP Super Cache, W3 Total Cache)
  • Your browser cache (try a hard refresh with Ctrl+F5 or Cmd+Shift+R)
  • Server-level or CDN cache (check with your hosting provider)

2. Section Visibility Settings:
In rare cases, a bug might prevent the Services section from updating if it was previously hidden. Go to Appearance > Customize > Section Settings > Services Section and ensure the Hide this section checkbox is unchecked. Toggle the setting, save, and check your site again.

This issue is a well-known characteristic of how the OnePress theme functions rather than a bug. By understanding that the theme uses the page excerpt, you can quickly take control of your Services section content.
